We know that sometimes choosing the right memory card can be a bit of a minefield so here is a quick guide to help you make the right choice.

DSLR's and MIrrorless cameras usually take one of two kinds of memory card. SD cards are the most common and used in all mirrorless cameras as well as most DSLRs. Some higher end DSLR models take CF cards or have two card slots, one for CF and one for SD cards.

What size and speed should you buy?

If you shoot your camera in single shot mode most of the time and rarely make videos then the size of the memory card is more important than the speed. Basically choose the memory card that gives you enough space. For modern DSLR's with 24mp+ sensors like the Nikon D750, Canon 80D and upwards we would recommend 32gb cards or larger.

If you shoot fast action or in bursts as well as making videos then the speed of a memory card becomes more important so that it can keep up with the camera. Here we would recommend choosing the fastest and largest card within your budget.

Here are our current recommedations as of 2017

For landscape use and general photography - A 32GB or larger Sandisk Extreme CF or Sandisk Extreme SD card

For sports, action and video use - As high a capacity as required Sandisk Extreme or Extreme Pro CF card or Sandisk Extreme Pro SDHC card.

Please note that we are only able to supply memory cards alongside the purchase of a camera.
